High scoring games in the North. Third win in a row for Hamburg Freezers, this time away against Kärpät.

North Division

In a high scoring game that was an up and down for both sides during all of the 65 minutes of play and the following shootout, Hamburg Freezers from Germany gained an important away win against Kärpät Oulu from Finland that in the end could be not enough as they lost one point despite gaining the lead four times in regulation.

Thomas Oppenheimer and Nicolas Krämmer earned a lead for Hamburg twice in a first period where Kärpät was in control of the puck more often but both times the Fins had a fast answer through Ivan Huml and John Norman. At the begin of the second it was again Oppenheimer who got the lead back to the Freezers in power play. Now it looked for many minutes as if the small distance would be enough but a superb third period let the match go into overtime. Joonas Komulainen who earned three stars at the European Star Awards was succesful twice for the hosts while Brandon Reid was there to get Hamburg in front for the fourth time. Rob Collins was the lone goal scorer in the shooutout to get the Germans the extra point. Now they have the same amount of points as their fellow countrymen from Berlin but they played one more game.

The other match of North Division was played with forwards only you could think by looking at the result when HC Kometa Brno received bottom side HC Plzen 1929. In three occasions did the guests tie the match in the first period through Milan Gulas, Vaclav Pletka and Ondrej Havlicek - Jozef Kovacik, Leos Cermak and Juraj Valach had opened the score each time for a strong Kometa Brno. Around "half time" Ondrej Kratena even turned the game around completely in favour of Plzen. Now the home side was in need to find a reaction and did so through Filip Krejcirik and Jakub Svoboda before the second intermission. When Tomas Vlasak was left alone in front of Kometa goalie Jiri Trvaj he didn't waste the chance to draw level once more with less than ten minutes to go. Tomas Svoboda with a rebound at 57:56 and Leos Cermak at 59:15 both scored their second goal of the evening for the late but not undeserved home win. Plzen stays at the bottom of the group with just two points in 6 games.

East Division

Swedish side Brynäs IF earned the lead in East Division by defeating Finnish side TPS with 4-1. The late first-period goal scored by Jonathan Granström was tied through Hannu Pikkarainen at 33:36. Just three minutes later Daniel Widing got the lead back to the hosts who were more aggresive tonight. They were rewarded with another two goals in the third period through Andreas Thuresson and Ryan Gunderson. Brynäs now has 14 points and is one point ahead of Tappara that has one game more left to play but both teams still meet each other in October.
