After 9 rounds of 10 in the Elitserien qualification Kvalserien the outcome is already known. Rögle will be promoted from Allsvenskan and Djurgården will be relegated. Timrå wins Kvalserien and remains in Elitserien.

The Elitserien qualification Kvalserien is played with six teams. Four from HockeyAllsvenskan and the last two from Elitserien.

Rögle was the big surprise of Kvalserien. They finished only 5th in HockeyAllsvenskan and qualified for Kvalserien after games against Oskarshamn, Västerås and their arch rival Malmö. Rögle opened Kvalserien with wins against Djurgården and Örebro. Then followed losses to Bofors and Timrå. The key to the promotion was probably the wins against Leksand in game 5 and 6. In the 7th game Rögle lost in overtime to Timrå. Game 8 and 9 saw wins against Karlskoga and Örebro.

Timrå was far behind the other teams in Elitserien's regular season and they knew for a long time that they would have to play Kvalserien to remain in Elitserien. Timrå, with top scorer Matt Murley, has been outstanding in Kvalserien losing only one game (away to Örebro).

For Djurgården, who has played the last 36 seasons in the highest Swedish league, the end of Elitserien was different than for Timrå. They lost the last game and finished with 72 points, just like 10th placed Linköping. But Linköping had 3 goals better goal difference. Djurgården got the worst possible start of Kvalserien when they lost 3-4 at home to Rögle after a great start of the game. Of the 9 games played in Kvalserien Djurgården has only been able to collect all 3 points in 3.
