DEG Metro Stars get derby revenge

Düsseldorf wins derby against Cologne. Top quartet consisting of Berlin, Ingolstadt, Mannheim and Wolfsburg wins their games.
Kölner Haie - DEG Metro Stars 2:4In a sold-out Lanxess Arena, filled with 18,581 spectators, the DEG Meto Stars won their away derby against their closest rivals - not only regarding distance but also in the DEL table. The Sharks left a rather nervous impression and could be happy to survive the first period without any goals against. After only 1:35 played in the middle period the lead for Düsseldorf came anyway when Adam Courchaine scored. In the following minutes Cologne was lucky not to lay back by a higher margin as the referees denied two DEG goals after the video review. Düsseldorf kept the pressure high while home team Kölner Haie looked helpless and Connor James increased the guest's lead to two (31.). This was the starting signal for Cologne which cut the lead to one only three minutes after the last goal by Düsseldorf. Early in the last period again Adam Courchaine and Ben Gordon decided the game. When Philip Gogulla scored the 2-4, the Sharks tried everything by pulling out the goalie during the last three and a half minutes where they also had a power play but the result didn't change anymore. On the other side Düsseldorf missed the wide open net several times.
Straubing Tigers - Eisbären Berlin 1:2During the majority of the match it looked like Straubing could get the surprise win against league leaders Eisbären Berlin. Daniel Sparre had opened the score for the fifth placed hosts in the fifth minute. The Polar Bears found late into the game but still managed to win by goals through Daniel Weiß and Julian Talbot in the last seven minutes of regular time. The second goal for the capitals came even shorthanded.
ERC Ingolstadt - Hamburg Freezers 3:2 Hamburg ended its DEL weekend with another away defeat. Two days after the 0-4 in Düsseldorf, the Freezers also lost against second placed Ingolstadt. Michel Periard had opened the score for the Bavarians after almost eleven minutes. Early in the middle period Brett Engelhardt tied the game for the team from Northern Germany. Not even five minutes later Derek Hahn get the lead back to Ingolstadt in power play - a lead later increased by Joe Motzko (36.). Eight minutes into the last period Thomnas Dolak cut the lead to one but Hamburg couldn't change the result anymore.
Adler Mannheim - Nürnberg Ice Tigers 3:2 Bottom club Nürnberg Ice Tigers gave Mannheim a hard fight. In the 7th minute Shane Joseph brought Nürnberg in front while his team was shorthanded. Early in the second period Mannheim again had a men-advantage but this time they did a better job and Jamie Sifers scored the equalizer for the hosts (23.). Around "half time" Brad Leeb get the lead back to Nürnberg, but within four minutes of the last period Mannheim destroyed any hope left for the Bavarians to get points in the SAP arena. Lehoux (47.) and Kink (51.) had been succesful for the Eagles.
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - EHC München 2:1In a match with few goals Wolfsburg had the better end on their side. In the first period David Laliberté had brought the Lower Saxons in front despite being outshut 6 to 12 in the first 20 minutes. On the other side München kept the pressure high and was rewarded with the equalizer by Johan Edjepalm six seconds before the end of the middle period. Early in the last period Andre Huebscher scored another one for Wolfsburg which turned out to be the game-winner. Wolfsburg now has got 71 points and has still all opportunities to improve their playoff position.
