Bucharest will finally have an Ice Arena back! According to Mayor Gabriela Firea: "Starting from the middle of next year, the teams of hockey and ice-skating, as well as all citizens who want to skate and have fun on ice, will have a new Olympic ice rink, equipped to the highest standards.By finalizing this investment, we will put Bucharest and Romania on the map of international ice and skating competitions and at the same time offer Bucharest a modern sports and leisure center"

The historical Mihai Flamaropol ice arena was built in 1952.The old building, in an advanced state of degradation, was demolished in 2011. The works for the construction of the new skating rink began in March 2017 and a quarter of the contract was executed to date. After the demolition, the city's hockey teams - Steaua and Sportul Studentesc - started a wanderlust, always playing far from the home before electing the small arena of Carta, a village in the mountains, 270 Km from the capital, as a new home

The new skating rink will have a capacity of 3,100 seats. The building, with an area of approximately 9,500 square meters, will have a dual function: ice rink and sports and leisure center, with spaces for swimming pool, wellness, basketball, fitness, aerobics, but also for skateboarding, skating, byking, escalada. There are also commercial areas dedicated to sports, cafés and restaurants. A space for roller skating, bicycle and roller sports is also on the roof .In winter, the surface can be arranged as a snow park.
