A simple 7-0 shutout by the United States have kept the Americans hot at the 20th Maccabiah Games against the hosts from Israel.
The Americans didn't really blow the game out of the water until the third period, where the team began the final 20 minutes with a 3-0 lead. A big goal by Max Blitz on the 5-on-3 power play in the second was topped off by a Jacob Rivera marker following a shorthanded period that extended their lead to three after an earlier marker from Jonathan Lazarus.
Then, the goal parade began. Early in the third, a snipe from Matt Mendelson put the Americans up by four, only to have Chad Goldberg make it 5-0 USA 30 seconds later. Ben Sharf and Eric Israel would add goals before the buzzer to complete the shutout and finish off the day of hockey action.
The Americans will finish their preliminary round on Thursday with a meeting against Germany, a team that has allowed 63 goals in just three games this year. Israel will be back on the ice on Wednesday to face Canada, who are currently the tournament's only undefeated team after two games of play.
