Djurgårdens IF have hired former player Mikael Håkanson as assistant coach next to headcoach Hans Särkijärvi, Djurgårdens IF writes on their webbsite. Mikael will therefore be joining Särkijärvi and Stefan Nyman for upcoming SHL-season and at the same time complete the staff department.

Mikael played for seven seasons in Djurgårdens IF and recorded a total of 86 points in 356 games. He's did 808 games in SHL and reached 374 points, divided in 158 goals and 216 assists. Mikael also won the Swedish Hockey Leagues trophy Le Mat with Djurgården the season 1999-2000.

-"I've been playing hockey since I was six years old and it has been my life. Ever since I've been away from hockey, I 've felt that I missed the sport very much. I know Jocke and Thomas since earlier and they are two good choices as Sporting Directors. I've had Säcken as a coach and he's a stubborn man from the north, but with he's both feet on the ground. It's going to be inspiring and fun and I'm hoping that we will be playing a fast and successful hockey, that will give us a lot of points. I feel that Djurgården have something exciting going on, so it will be great," Mikael said to difhockey.se

And Sporting Director Joakim Eriksson is thrilled to have Mikael on board: -"Me and Thomas Johansson have played with Mikael and we know him real well. Besides, he is a very positive person with a high social competence and he's giving a lot of energy. He's working well with a lot of different kind of people and I hope and believe that he will add these pieces in to his leadership."
