KHL Tuesday Roundup - Best Teams Taking Control
09 Oct 2013 | Tim Bourcier
Barys and Ak Bars in a dogfight to be the best teams in the East. Dynamo Moscow stays on SKA's heels.
Avangard Omsk 0 - Dynamo Moscow 6
Dynamo began the scoring just over two minutes in and they went
on to rout Avangard. This is the ninth straight loss for Omsk who now
sits at the bottom of the East standings.
Manim Karpov scored a hat trick and picked up an assist on the first
goal for a four point game.
Barys 3 – Vityaz 2 SO
Vityaz was in control early in
this one, but Savchenko tied the game up 2-2 with a little less than five
minutes to play. The game needed
penalties to decide the match and Roman Starchenko scored the game winner. Seleznyov and Topol each scored for Vityaz to
give them a lead, but Vityaz could not hold onto the lead late in regulation.
Ugra 3 – Ak Bars 4
Ak Bars kept pace in the East and
their overtime victory over Ugra puts them just one point below Barys for the
conference lead. Ugra also had a late
lead after an Andersson goal, but Varnakov would score with just over six
minutes in the game to send the game to overtime. Svitov would score in sudden death to end the
game.
Avtomobilist 2 – Torpedo 4
Avtomobilist has also been in a
slide recently and a rising Torpedo side took an easy 4-2 victory. The game was out of hand early as Torpedo
scored three goals in less than five minutes and all within the eight minute
mark of the first period. Kovar was
yanked for Lobanov after the third goal and they would get some quick momentum
from the change with a Yemeleyev goal 12 minutes in the first. Torpedo was just too much for Avtomobilist
though and any comeback efforts were stopped.
Spartak 2 – Donbass 1
This game was a defensive chess
match for two evenly matched teams with outstanding goaltenders. Matt Anderson opened the scoring for Spartak
with 30 seconds to go in the second period.
Krutov would put up Spartak by two with his early third period
goal. Fedotenko scored for Donbass with
just under two minutes to go, giving the Ukrainian side an opportunity to pull
Leighton to get a sixth skater. Spartak
would hold on though and took an important win in a competitive Western
Conference.
