SM-Liiga changes name

09 Aug 2013 | Davide Tuniz

Unofficial sources confirmed the new name will be just Liiga

According to Finnish website Jatkoaika.com , SM-Liiga intends to change its name to "Liiga". SM-liiga nearby sources told the change should occur before the start of upcoming season.

SM-Liiga's Jarmo Koskinen refused to comment, but sources close to the organization have confirmed the name change. SM-Liiga becomes, therefore, a simplified version of its name, and is known in the future simply as "Liiga" (the League). SM-Liiga has been operating under the same name since its founding in 1976.
