Aleksei Fetisov was confirmed today as head coach of VHL team Sputnik Nizhny Tagil following the excellent team campaign after Fetisov appointment as interim head coach in mid october when he replaced sacked Aleksei Zdakhin. Sputnik won 9 of last 11 games.

Fetisov, 36, spent almost all player career in Sputnik, where he is 3rd ever top scorer

Monday night during a ceremony in Zurich, Swiss awards for last season were assigned. Here the results:

Best Goalkeeper: Tobias Stephan (Genève-Servette)
Best Defender: Mathias Seger (ZSC Lions)
Best Forward: Thomas Deruns (Genève-Servette)
Best Center: Josh Holden (EV Zug)
Best Young player: Roman Josi (SC Bern)
Best NLB player: Dominic Forget (Visp)
Golden Player: Josh Holden (EV Zug)

The Swede Marcus Vinnerborg will in tonight's game between Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks be the first European referee ever in the NHL. He will also conduct the game Colorado Avalanche-San Jose Sharks Wednesday night. Vinnerborg was awarded Swedish Referee of the Year the past three years.

When Elitserien restarted with two games after the international break AIK won their sixth straight game beating Södertälje 5-2. AIK are now in fourth place, a great performance so far by the club that almost everyone expected to finish last. In the other game of the evening Frölunda lost to Skellefteå, 0-3.

U20 team of current Spanish champion CH Jaca reported sunday opening season trophy Copa del Principe defeating 7-3 (1-1,2-0,4-2) FC Barcelona in Majadahonda "La Nevera" rink, despite presence in Catalan team of regular senior team players as Oriol Boronat and national team goalie Anders Alcaine.

Valentín Mairal (2), Pablo Puyuelo (2), Héctor Alastruey, Javier Luis and Alejandro Carbonell scored for champions, Oriol Boronat (2) and Marc Montelius for runner-up Barcelona

In semifinals, played saturday, Jaca won 3-1 hosts Majadahonda, while Barcelona defeated 5-3 CHH Txuri Urdin San Sebastian

Vysshaya hokkeinaya liga (VHL) elected players of the week for 8-15 november:
Sputnik Nizhny Tagil's Mikhail Demidov is the goalie of the week, with 96.30 saves and one shout out
Best defender was HK Sarov's Sergei Dorofeev, 3 points (2+1) in 3 games and 4+\-

Poprad's sensational campaign in October has resulted in players being elected Player of the Month.
Marcel Melichercik
was elected Goalkeeper of the Month with an 1.38 average, 95% saves and 357 shots faced,
Stanislav Jasečko was awarded the Defender of the Month Trophy thanks to his 3 goals, 6 assists and 19 plus/minus in 13 games.
Former NHL veteran Ladislav Nagy became Forward of the Month as he scored 9 goals and served 10 assists in 12 games.

 
 
 
 

16 Nov 2010, 20:18 | Zdeno Ciger replaces Pavel Hynek at Slovan

Immediately after being defeated by Skalica, Slovan Bratislava managment decided to fire Czech coach Pavel Hynek and replace him with former Slovan player Zdeno Ciger. Current assistant coach Miroslav Miklošovic remains on the bench to supply Ciger's lack of an A-licence. Another former player - Miroslav Mosnár - will also join the staff. Ciger already coached Slovan between 2006 and 2008, winning a championship. Slovan is currrently 6th in Extraliga after 26 rounds.

Lugano aquired Sébastien Caron from Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL. Caron has played in Swiss NLA before. 2007-2010 he played for Fribourg-Gottéron.

Both Biel goalies have signed new contracts. Reto Berra signed till 2012 and Marco Streit till 2013.

After victories against Switzerland and Slovakia, Germany defeated Norway 3-2 (0:0, 0:2, 3:0) to win the tournament undefeated. Mathias Plachta and Thomas Brandl (2) scored for Germany in the third period.

SINO Cup was played in Rødovre, Denmark last weekend. The Under-20 teams of five countries played each other. Belarus won the tornament with 8 points, one point more than the trio of Latvia, Finland (B) and Denmark. Austria only managed to win one point.

Results: Denmark-Latvia 2-3 (SO), Austria-Finland 0-2, Belarus-Latvia 3-0, finland-Denmark 3-2, Austria-Belarus 6-7 (OT), Latvia-Finland 3-2 (SO), Latvia-Austria 9-0, Denmark-Belarus 6-0, Belarus-Finland 5-2 and Denmark-Austria 4-2.

Germany beat Switzerland 2-1 in the final game of Deutschland Cup to win the tournament. Switzerland took the lead halfways through the game but Danner and Pietta scored for Germany to secure the title. Canada finished third after a 3-2 (SO) win against Slovakia.
