Valpellice Bulldogs made a real feat in playoffs quarter finals game #5: with a small roster and a coach fired last month from Serie A2, Valpellice advances to the semi finals for the first time ever in its history knocking out super favourite Renon, finalist in the last 3 consecutive seasons. A stellar performance by goalie Kevin Regan and a fighting spirit by Iannone and Nikiforuk made a miracle. More than 500 fans followed the team in Collalbo from Torre Pellice. Now Bulldogs will face another favourite, regular season winner Val Pusteria, closing easily, as expected, its pair versus Alleghe winning 2-1 in game 5. Same path for champion Asiago, knocking out Fassa in five games and now facing Bolzano in an intriguing semi final.

In both today´s semi finals of the Asia League the lower ranked away team won.
Tohoku Freeblades defeated Nippon Paper Cranes 7-3 and the only Korean team of the playoffs, Anyang Halla, beat regular season winners Oji Eagles 4-3.

88 year old deputy Alcide Berloffa died friday after an illness. He was the president of HC Bolzano from 1960 to 1964, in charge when Bolzano won its first title in 1963

Lausanne HC was the last team to qualify for the Swiss Nationalliga B semi finals. Today´s 6-2 against HC Ajoie gives a 4-3 series win.
The other quarter final series ended: Chx-de-Fds - Sierre-Anniviers 4-0, EHC Olten - EHC Basel Sharks 4-0 and EHC Visp - SC Langenthal 4-2.

The quarter finals of the Finnish second league Mestis is played February 19-26. Three out of four series were decided today. Only SaPKo-D Team is still alive.SaPKo won 8-1 today but D Team leads the series 2-1.
Jukurit knocked out K-Vantaa, Sport Vaasa beat LeKi and KooKoo got past K-Laser. All in three straight games.

The third coach of the season for HC Lugano: before the start of the playouts the club from Ticino hired 46 year old Canadian Greg Ireland, last season on AHL's San Antonio Rampage bench. Ireland will be assisted by current interim coach Mike McNamara and assistant coach Patrick Fischer.

Forward Jarolsav Kracík is playing for Litvínov on a loan from Plzeň. Both teams will be fighting for one quarterfinals spot in a best-of-five series from this evening. In the player loan agreement between Plzeň and Litvínov it is written, that Plzeň's approval is needed for Kracík's start in mutual games, but Plzeň disagree with Kracík's start and he has to stay off the ice.

Into the Czech playoffs quarterfinals teams from the 1st to 6th place are qualified. The next four teams, from the 7th to 10th places, will play for the remaining two quarterfinals tickets in the 4-wins series (Litvínov v. Plzeň and Slavia P. v. Karlovy Vary).
Regardless of these two series, the fibre of the first two quarterfinal series is already known: Vítkovice(3rd) will play against České Budějovice(6th) and Zlín(4th) against Pardubice(5th).
Třinec(1st) and Liberec(2nd) have to wait for their opponents until the end of playoffs preliminary round .

A game between Vítkovice and Třinec showed the best of this regular season. Vítkovice wins the game 5-4 after a hillarious turnover: the score after 35 minutes of play was 1-4.
After the end of the game, Třinec was honoured the President's trophy for the winner of the regular season, Vítkovice climbed to the 3rd in the final standings.

In the 53rd (of 54) round of Slovak Extraliga it was decided who will be the last play-off ticket holder. It´s the team of HK Nitra, that reached a play-off spot in the game against Martin (7-3). It means the premature end of the season for Martin, because that was a direct fight for the last free play-off spot.

HC Energie Karlovy Vary announced that the management of the club assured passable budget of money also for the next season. As we informed you earlier, the open war between the club and the city hall was held in Karlovy Vary from the start of a year, the club owner Karel Holoubek was disappointed of the decreasing of the city hall's grants for the club. After a few rounds of negotiations both sides came to a deal: The city hall will add another app. 20,500€ to current app. 462,000€; Holoubek will pay app. 88,500€ from own bullet and another app. 88,500€ will the club earn from the new partner - company SLOT Game.
Negotiating of another app. 89,000€ grant is in progress and the club existence is assured for the next season, Holoubek said.

Nippon Paper Cranes beat Oji Eagles away 5-3 to close the gap between the teams to one point with one game remaining of the Asia League. The teams wll play each other again tomorrow to decide who will win the Regular season.
Also the third place is uo for grabs. Tohoku Freeblades is currently in third place, only one point ahead of Anyang Halla.

The ice-hockey club from Omsk, Russia, wins for the 17th game in a row (!) in a game against Novgorod (3-1) and assured the gold spot in the final standings of the 2010/11 KHL regular season.
