As was expected, Marian Jelínek, 47, signed a one-year contract with the Czech Extraliga club HC Plzeň 1929 where he already spent the last two seasons in the position as the team's head coach. A gold-medalist from the WC 2005 with Czech Republic as an assistant coach stated, that the summer training camp will start in May 2. "We hope we will fetch about five new players for the next season," Jelínek said.

GET ligaen qualification proved to be succesful for both GET ligaen teams, Manglerud and Stjernen, both comfortably securing their top division status for next season even before the last round due to be played on Sunday. The final battle of two strongest teams in Czech 1. liga became a surprisingly one-sided affair. Usti nad Labem swept Chomutov aside in four straight games (2-1, 5-4, 3-2, 4-1) to win the league. Last season, the same pair fought a seven-game series with Chomutov becoming an eventual winner. Usti now advances to the best-of-seven series against Mlada Boleslav for a spot in Extraliga for next season. The series starts on 6th April.

Still playing legend of Czech ice hockey, Jiří Dopita, announced that it is for 90% certain, that he won't continue his engagement in the Czech Extraliga club HC Kometa Brno - the team where he spent the previous two seasons and where he's a team captain.

Dopita is an owner of the club from Olomouc that is playing in the second highest Czech league - 1.liga and regarding to his words there are just two possibilities for his future: HC Olomouc or retirement.

Central Hockey League Odessa Jackalopes announces team will move to NAHL next season after NAHL governors accepted bid and the ownership group finalized the purchase of a team from Owatonna Minnesota last week.

HK Ilidža 2010, a team that joined Bosnian hockey family during this season and missed qualification for playoffs in BH Liga, won the second edition of Bosnian national cup, named after former Czech coach of HK Bosna Jaroslav Jandourek. After won 6-3 over Alfa Novo Sarajevo in semifinal with an hattrick by promising Dino Čordalija, Ilidza beated 2-1 in the final last season cup winner HK Bosna.

Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced Wednesday that Mike Williamson (Leduc, Alta.), head coach of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen, will be the head coach of Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team for the 2011 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, April 14-24 in Dresden and Crimmitschau, Germany.

The SKA St. Petersburg Council of President's reacted on the team's underachievement really quick. As the first move after the team's elimination from the KHL quarterfinals they announced the end of Václav Sýkora in the position as head coach and also of Jan Votruba, his assistant.

One day before this action the president of club Alexander Medvedev told, that players are winning the games, coaches are losing, which hinted a possibility of Sýkora's and Votruba's removing from the team. "This is a management's decision, there's nothing to comment. It's the decisions time and I think that they will be constructive and they'll come soon," GM Andrei Tochitsky said.

After Monday's Miloš Holaň removing from the position as head coach of Mladá Boleslav the sport manager Milan Hnilička was looking for a substitution and he has found it really fast.

Vladimír Jeřábek, 52, signed a contract for the rest of this season. He has only one target: To save an Extraliga license for the next season, because the team of Mladá Boleslav is balancing on the edge of relegation to the 1.liga. Last time, Jeřábek was leading HC Kometa Brno in Extraliga, but he resigned after bad results on Jan 5, 2011.
