Germany won the IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division 1 Group A to win promotion to the 2013 World Juniors in Ufa, Russia.
Germany will play in the Elite group of the 2013 World Juniors after winning Division 1 Group A on home ice in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Germany won the division undefeated, five points ahead of Belarus in second place. The teams played each other already on the first day where Germany one a tight game 2-1 after a shorthanded game winner.
As Belarus surprisingly lost to fourth placer Slovenia on the last day Germany had already won promotion before the last game against third placed Norway. Norway had the lead 3-2 but thanks to two late goals by David Elsner Germany kept their perfect record with a 5-3 victory.
Great Britain is relegated to Division 1 Group B after losing all their five games, the last and decisive game against Austria 1-3.
Germany's Mathias Niederberger was selected as the best goalie of the tournament while his team mate Konrad Abeltshauser (with a +/- of +10) was the best defender. Norway's Sondre Olden was the best forward. Tobias Rieder from Germany was the top scoring with an impressive 13 points in five games.
Division 1 Group B will finish today, and it seems like France will be promoted for next year's Division 1 Group A.
