With goals by Artem Anisimov and Ruslan Fedotenko New York Rangers opens European campaign winning in Prague
Almost 11.000 fans packed Prague's
Tesla Arena to watch the
New York Rangers European campaign debut against
Sparta Praha.
Artem Anisimov and
Ruslan Fedotenko scored in the second period: Anisimov taps in a backhand off a rebound from a Tim Erixon shot, and Fedotenko completed a power play passing sequence with Derek Stepan and Michael Del Zotto. Sparta was better in the first period wasting several chances, most notable ones with Petr Tenkrat and Mario Bliznak, allowing Martin Biron shut-out, before the Rangers takes control of the game in the second.
Debuting
Brandon Prust said: 'It's an honor to come over here and be a part of this. It's great for the NHL, and great for hockey around the world. We're just happy to be a part of it, making the most of it, and having a lot of fun with it'
Assistant captain
Petr Tenkrat: It certainly was a big challenge for me and the whole team. I think we started well, then we got two goals and the Rangers lead the game. However, it was a great experience for all fans and we showed that we can play good hockey, which is a good signal for the next matches of the season.'
Rangers continues European tour against Frölunda in Sweden on Friday, Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia on Sunday and EV Zug in Switzerland on Monday.
