Sweden and Czech Republic entered the World Juniors today. Sweden won 7-1 but the teams were a lot closer than the numbers show.
Seven different players scored for Sweden in the 7-1 win over the Czechs but it was Czech Republic who opened the best and put a lot of pressure against the Swedish goalie Hugo Alnefelt. Jan Mysak also gave the Czechs the lead in the middle of the first period on the first powerplay of the game. Sweden needed only a half minute to tie it again when Arvid Costmar scored the first Swedish goal of the tournament.
Shortly after the equalizer Czech Republic's Michal Teply was extremely close to make it 2-1 but the referees ruled after a video review that Alnefelt stopped the puck from crossing the goal line.
The Czech opened the second period with a lot of speed and some scoring chances but in the middle of the period Sweden started to make things work better and they scored three goals in seven minutes. All assisted by captain Philip Broberg who also was named best player of the game for Sweden.
After that, Sweden's win was never in danger. Instead Sweden added another three goals in the third period for a solid 7-1 win.
The win was Sweden's 53rd straight win at the round robin of the World Juniors.
