It was close for Frölunda last year when they lost the CHL final to Luleå but this season they managed to go all the way. Frölunda beat Kärpät 2-1.
The final of the Champions Hockey League is played in one game only. Kärpät of Finland hosted last year's finalist Frölunda of Sweden.
The CHL top scorer and MVP Ryan Lasch, who else, scored 1-0 for Frölunda at 16:20 and only 1:23 later the runner-up for the scoring title, Spencer Abbott, made it 2-0 for the guests. After a scoreless second act Kärpät got two powerplay opportunities in the third period and they scored when just one second remained of the latter. Juho Keronen got the goal from the corner with a bit of luck.
Kärpät pulled their goalie Sami Aittokallio from the net for an extra attacker a minute before the end but couldn't get any hot scoring chances against the Frölunda goalie Lars Johansson.
