Asiago avoids the last place with a fierce performance, kicking out Tychy from the race for the plate
The Italian anthem finally plays in the Ile
Lacroix arena: GKS Tychy closes its Superfinals campaign with an unexpected
defeat that knocks out the team from the race for the silver plate but, waiting
to know the final position in the standing, surely takes back home the title of
revelation team. On the other side Asiago escapes from the “flop of the week”
award even if the Italian team come to Rouen with ambitions and an eye on the
silver plate, but never let the impression to be competitive, along the three
games of the weekend. For the last clash coach Pat Lefebvre mixes again the
lines, bringing back the trio Bentivoglio-Ulmer-Magnabosco in the first, as commonly
in Serie A games. Tychy has Kosowski in the net. After Asiago goalie Carrozzi
neutralizing a couple of tries by Kolarz and Kolusz, Asiago opens the score in
the first power play: Kosowski rebounds on Matteo Tessari, the wonder-kid Josè
Magnabosco is prompt to get in the net.
Tychy reaction is furious but Italian team manages to face it, with goalie
Carrozzi reactive stopping a coast-to-coast by Kolusz at 13 and a missile by Bepierszcz
at 17 and decisive at 18 deflecting a cross shot of Lopuski. The best save was
at 19 on Vitek, alone in front of the
cage. The second period begins with the second goal of asiago, scored by
Andreas Lutz on power play: the defender takes a Kosowski rebound on Nigro, his
shot is not irresistible but the goalie can only deflect and follow it landing
in the net. Tychy controls the rest of period, gaining a couple of good chances
on power play and finally break the resistance of Asiago at 33:11: while
Italian bench protest for a controversial episode behind the cage of Polish
team, Jaroslaw Rzeszutko well orchestrates a counter-attack with a final pass
for an easy open-cage goal by Kolusz. Surviving to a double power play, Asiago
scores a capital goal at 43:44 with Layne Ulmer, well assisted by Anthony
Luciani. Lutz has then a great chance to definitely kills the game but shots on
Kosowski. Tychy increases the pressure giving Asiago the opportunity to play on
counterattack and seals the coffin of Polish team at 54:37 on powerplay with
Sean Bentivoglio. Coach Sejba decides not to pull the goalie despite the second
goal scored by Baginski at 57:51 and an unproductive final assault
