Färjestad BK defeated the newcomers Karlskrona HK, 3-1, in the 2015/16 SHL seasons' first game in Arena Karlskrona. But it wasn't easy as Karlskrona put up a great game.

Karlskrona played a historical game against Färjestad yesterday as it was the clubs' first SHL game ever. And this was highlighted by the home attendance. Karlskrona came out in a flying start and schocked the visitors. In the first minutes of play, Karlskrona created some great opportunities.

But it would take fifteen minutes before we got to see the first goal and it was Färjestad who took the lead. In a powerplay, Milan Gulas found a way in behind an obstructed Gailbraith in the net. Before the first act was over, Färjestad increased their lead by Joakim Nygård.

Karlskrona created a lot of chances in the middle act, but Lars Haugen in the visitors net played solid and didn't let the rubber pass him. Instead, Färjestad would score one more goal halfway in the period. Joel Eriksson Ek went around the net and found a spot at the far post. After that, Karlskrona had to keep their main focus on their defensive play, as Färjestad kept their pressure.

But Karlskrona got their historical goal before the second period was over. Mattias Guter became the first Karlskrona player to score in SHL and it was a little bit lucky. His shot bounced on Tomas Skogs and in to the net. The third period became scoreless and Färjestad controlled the game.

-"I think we did a good game, but the powerplay and the fights around the net decides this game," Karlskronas' coach Pelle Hånberg said afterwards.
