Switzerland with first win

Switzerland with first win

03 May 2015 | Kamil Przegendza

A tough game was expected tonight. France and Switzerland wanted really hard to win after their first defeats. France lost to Germany 1-2, but Switzerland surprised everybody with a loss against Austria 3-4. Both teams really needed a win in this match, which guaranteed emotions.

Both teams started the match really bad. Many penalties were making troubles for a good, fast game. First chances for French were on the first power play of the game, but Leonardo Genoni was quicker and made few fine saves. Next opportunity to score a power play goal had Switzerland, but their power play lasted only 40 seconds, then Denis Hollenstein fouled really stupid a French player and was sent to penalty box, French didn't make any use of it, but shortly after leaving the penalty box Denis Hollenstein again was late and had to foul a rival. This time the French also didn't make use of powerplay which they were playing really badly, at the end of the French power play Sacha Treille made an accidentally brutal effort and he was sent off for a 5+20 misconduct game penalty. It took only 30 seconds for Swiss to get the score opener in this long powerplay, after the mistake of a French defender Denis Hollenstein had made himself a clear position and he scored by a great shot, it was 1:0 at 15:36. Antoine Roussel who was sitting in the penalty box after seeing this goal, got really angry and threw a drink towards the camera operator, and for that the referees called for him a 10+20 misconduct game penalty. Switzerland were playing powerplay close to the end of the period, but they didn't make many more chances, or were denied by Christobal Huet.

At the beginning of the second Switzerland scored a second goal. After great individual action and fatal movement of Frech defence Roman Josi scored for 2:0 at 21:24. The French really looked bad after losing the second goal. Switzerland then started to control the result and they did it well, despite having many chances in many powerplays they didn't score another goal in the second period. French played their powerplays very chaotic just like all second period, after second goal they've really lost their confidence, shot statistics in second period fully confirm this : 7-13 for Swiss.

The third period brought really a battle, after few chances of Switzerland, and few powerplays, play went really close. Then French after quick counter attack and bad save by Leonardo Genoni who let puck got to Damien Raux who made it 1:2 in time 48:31. France was back in game and their attacks with each minute were looking more dangerous, but their efforts din't bring goal. One minute before end of the game French coach Dave Henderson decided to take goalie off. This brought not good effect, just a few second after Christobal Huet left the goal, Reto Suri scored an empty netter for 3:1 at 59:06.

France lost the second game on this tournament, and the most dangerous rivals just before them, although Switzerland won their first game on this tournament, and now they have the same amount of points as Czech Republic in group A, French have 0 as the Latvians.
