Munich almost out
15 Mar 2015 | Markus Nisius
While Adler Mannheim could get back from a loss in game 2 with a big statement today, it could be over for München sooner than expected as they face elimination on Tuesday in Wolfsburg.
Adler Mannheim vs Nürnberg Ice Tigers 6-1, Series 2-1
After Friday’s
loss in Nürnberg, Mannheim wanted to come back into this series and managed to
play a game in which they were dominant in almost every aspect. It took them 8
minutes until Sinan Akdag opened the scoring with a straight shot in the upper
right corner after Jochen Hecht realised that the Ice Tigers’ defense shifted
completely to the right side and found Akdag free on the left wing. Matthias
Plachta added a goal 6 minutes later, shortly before Patrick Reimer could get
Nürnberg on the scoresheet as well.
The second
period saw Mannheim take way too many penalties, what did not really stop them
from scoring goals. Glen Metropolit tipped in a pass from Marcus Kink on a
breakaway at the 27:08 mark and Kink himself finished off a shorthanded breakaway
2 minutes later. Meanwhile Nürnberg was unable to use any of their powerplay
chances.
In the last
period Frank Mauer, who returned to the line-up, and Danny Richmond set the
score to 6-1. Adler Mannheim now leads the
series with 2-1.
EHC München
vs Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams 0-2, Series 0-3
The Red
Bulls seem not to find a solution to the tasks Wolfsburg’s defense is giving
them. München could not score in the second straight home game against
Wolfsburg now and is on the brink of elimination with an unexpected 0-3 series
deficit already. The game-winning goal came at the 8:08 mark, when Alexander
Polaczek got one past Florian Hardy. Sebastian Furchner added an empty net goal
with half a minute left. Wolfsburg can now enter the semifinals on Tuesday with
a home win and sweep München.
Hamburg
Freezers vs Düsseldorfer EG 3-2, Series 2-1
The game
started similar to game 1 with a quick lead for Hamburg when Morten Madsen
scored after 60 seconds. But apart from a powerplay marker 5 minutes into the
second period through Adam Mitchell, Hamburg couldn’t build on it this time and
let the door open for Düsseldorf to get a foot back in the game. And Düsseldorf
did so. Still in the second period Bernhard Ebner and Rob Collins managed to
even the result. In the last period Hamburg first had to survive the second 5
minute long powerplay after Mathieu Roy and Nicolas Krämmer had been ejected.
But just 27 seconds after the Krämmer penalty expired, it was Thomas
Oppenheimer, who got the game-winning goal for the Freezers.
ERC
Ingolstadt vs Iserlohn Roosters 3-1, Series: 2-1
In
Ingolstadt people had to wait 22 minutes to see the first goal and it wasn’t
their home team, who scored first. Brooks Macek got the 0-1 shorthanded and so
Iserlohn was looking to take the lead in the series. But Ingolstadt fought
back. In the last period Petr Taticek and twice John Laliberte (one emtpy net
goal) turned the game around and Ingolstadt hang on to the lead to claim the
series lead themselves in the end.
