In an unpredictable chain of events, Sweden managed to get to the peak of the table in this season's Euro Hockey Tour, following their sole triumph in the Finnish Karjala Cup. The Czechs are down at the bottom of the table winless.
Russia - Czech Republic 4:2 (3:0, 0:0, 1:2)
A game marked by penalties started the final day of the Karjala Cup in Hartwall Arena.
Artemy Panarin started the game with two goals in the first period and Ilya Kovalchuk added an assist on each of Russia's three first period goals.Egor Averin had a goal and two assists on the day.
Heading into the third period team Russia got penalized for having too many players on the ice, which gave a chance to Ondrej Roman to bring the Czechs back into play at 43:11.
The Czechs then went on to play a more aggressive game in desire to get back at the Russians. Radek Smolenak got a boarding penalty at 51:28, but upon return checked to the head which gave him 2+10 misconduct penalty and the Russians had a two-men powerplay. Alexander Radulov put the game to a close at 54:57.
Petr Holik's goal at 57:50 just marked the final result.
Ilya Sorokin collected 26 saves. Thus the Russians finish third, while the winless Czechs found themselves at the bottom.
Finland - Sweden 0:3 (0:1, 0:2, 0:0)
Sweden was winless until the game. Finland had all six points from two games. Sweden had 4, snapping two wins after shootout.
But the blanking of the hosts helped them reach the mountaintop on the table and take home the trophy.
Linus Klasen opened the scoring late in the first, at 17:58, on an assist from Johan Fransson.
In the second period Dick Axelsson at 23:08 and Patrik Hersley at 28:09 sealed the deal for Sweden.
Sweden may have the new King Henrik - Henrik Karlsson in net made 39 saves to record the shutout.
