Kazakhstan were already relegated. Finland needed a win to stay in the race for the medals. Still it was a close game. In the end Finland won it 4-3.
The Finnish team still has to prove that it is a top team. In another weak game they got away with a 4-3 win over already relegated Kazakhstan.
Olli Palola gave Finland the lead at eight minutes but Kazakhstan's Yevgeny Rymarev and Fedor Polishuk scored two quick goals to give their team the lead. Finland recovered from the shock and Jori Lehterä scored a power-play goal during the last minute of the first period to tie it.
In period two Finland scored another two goals. First Olli Jokinen made it 3-2 and just three seconds before the buzzer Jarkko Immonen doubled the lead.
Kazakhstan pulled the goalie and managed to get a third goal when Konstantin Romanov beat Pekka Rinne at 59:31. But they couldn't get the equalizer and Finland won the game 4-3.
Finland now needs Switzerland to beat Latvia to qualify for the playoff round.
