The blue collar mentality

The blue collar mentality

USA coach Dan Bylsma recalls the identity of the team to overcome the difficulties.

In a crowded press conference, team USA thanks organization for the warming welcome and the level of structures, remember the absence of GM David Poile before to set the goals for the upcoming tournament in the words of coach Dan Bylsma: "Firstly and most important, we have to create a chemistry: I think this is a challenge for every team. This is a unique tournament and creates a unique challenge. The team that comes together and figures that out the fastest will be the one that is most victorious, this is because we gave a lot of consideration to chemistry when assembling this team. we looked at previous histories together, familiarity with one another from playing together in NHL or internationally. After the chemistry we have to remember our identity: our group is toughest to play against. Look right down the line from the top to the last defenceman, we are tough. We have a blue-collar mentality. That is where our strength is at"

Ryan Suter

Ryan Suter: We have another chance to make history, it's something that not happens every time, we try not to loose also this opportunity. Obviously comes a question about his father Bob, part of Miracle on ice team: My dad don't talk too much about it. I heard more through my friends and teachers telling me where they where when that happened. My dad is a pretty quiet guy and doesn't say too much. i think it was maybe the greatest US sport team ever".

Patrick Kane: At Vancouver, specially the last game, was something unique. part of it was how I grew up. I was young and naive at the time and it's nice to have another opportunity to try and get a different result this time. We all came here with one goal: to get the gold medal and take it home.

Also Dustin Brown remember the final in Vancouver: Sometimes a loss like that will motivate you more than anything else. I remember how I felt after Vancouver and it's one of those things I'll keep in my mind this time.

Captain Zach Parise: Coming so close in Vancouver was a tough. Finishing second doesn't guarantee us anything this time and a lot of things have to go right. we have to play our best hockey in the semi-finals and finals. we have to watch out for European players not to get too much space because they are accostumed to bigger rink. About Russia: They have got a handful of the best players in the world. But every team feels like it's their time, regardless of playing home or not.. It can be a hard time with the expectations for them. Being on home ice is a certain advantage, but there is a lot of pressure on home team. Canada seemed to handle it last time. We'll see how it happens here. My dad (Canadian forward Jean-Paul Parise) played against Russia in 1972 Super Series. It was a lesson for us, they played so differently. In the first game the Canadians expected to beat them and they saw the talent that Russians had. Seeing how they played really changed ice hockey in North America.

Also GM Ray Shero pays tribute to Russian hockey: My father Fred coached the Philadelphia Flyers and was a big fan of the Russian way to play hockey. He traveled to Soviet Union to study Russian hockey and brought their techniques back in NHL even back in the 1960s.

Finally again Zach Parise commented his choice to be captain of the team: When they called me and said that I would be the captain, I was very happy and he could not believe it. It's great that  in our team a lot of guys are captains of their clubs, it's definitely going to help me. with those type of guys leading their way and with player like Patrick (Kane) with thier skill, we are going to be a team hard to play against.
