Eurohockey.com takes a look at what happened in the most recent round of MOL Liga games.
Miskolc played host to Nové Zámky as the home team looked to get out of their slump. Miskolc struck first as Juraj Faith found the back of the net 8:10 into the first period. Ten minutes later, Peter Polcik evened things up with a power-play goal.
In the second period, Matt Boyle put Miskolc back up by one when the home team converted a power play, but less than a minute later the teams were even again on a Patrik Korytko goal.
In the third period Miskolc was able to pull away as Curtis de Bruyn put the puck behind Jan Chovan off a pass from Márk Miskolczi and Juraj Durco set the score at 4-2.
"We had a lot of injured players therefore we couldn't play our game, Miskolc was faster today," said Nové Zámky head coach Ladislav Lubina after the game.
Csíkszereda-Ferencvaros 6-3
Marek Curilla scored first for the home team with Attila Góga getting the assist, at 6:25 Huba-Ferenc Bors put the puck onto Tihamér Becze's stick who put it past Michal Meravy to make it 2-0. FTC got on the scoreboard at 16:18 thanks to an Artyom Vaszjunyin goal.
The second period was all Csíkszereda as Jozef Hruby scored twice early in the period, one even strength and one powerplay goal. Tihamér Becze completed his hat trick before the midway point of the game to make it 6-1. Mervay didn't survive the period as he was pulled in favour of Krisztián Budai.
In the third period Fradi scored twice to make the score respectable thanks to PP goals by Gábor Kiss and Antti Ojanen.
Zsolt Molnár scored first with Roberto Gliga scoring a PPG in the first half of the first period. Henrich Jabornik was set up by Tamás Gröschl to get back within one. Martin Saluga scored one more Brasov goal before the end of the period.
DAB started the second period down by two but scored three unanswered goals to have the one goal lead after 40 minutes! Nikandrosz Galanisz and Balázs Somogyi both even strength goals and Zsolt Azari scored with DAB having a two man advantage.
Each team scored once in the last five minutes of the game, Galanisz had his second of the game to make it 5-3 for the visitors and Csanád Virág made it 5-4.
Nové Zámky-Csíkszereda 4-3 (SO)
Ex-NHL forward Mike Danton made his MOL League debut in Slovakia.
Szabolcs Szőcs opened up the scoring for the visitors, then early in the second period Martin Frolik tied it up for the home club. At 26:59 Csíkszereda regained the lead for the Transylvanian club as Tamás Bíró had the assist. At the midway point of the game Nové Zámky again pulled even as Erik Caladi set up Lukas Ruzicka for the goal, less than a minute later Frolik scored his second goal of the game.
There were no goals in the third period until under four minutes left as Szőcs found the back of the net for the second time in the game to even it up at 3-3. After a scoreless overtime Pavel Kowalczyk won the game has he slipped the puck past Gellért Ruczaj for the shootout-winning goal.
Dunaúváros looked to get out of their rut as they had lost 3 out of their past 4 games, both teams went with their number two keepers between the pipes, Dávid Duschek for the home team and Tamás Kiss for the visitors. Miskolc took advantage of their first power play as Adrián Tóth made it 1-0, then two minutes later Tóth struck again to make it 2-0 after the first twenty minutes.
Just before the halfway point of the game, Miskolc scored twice in a 23-second span Roland Hajós on the power play and Ádám Hegyi set up László Ritó to make it 4-0. DAB coach Stephan Lundh decided to switch goalies and bringing in number three netminder Janis Kalnins in place of Kiss. It appeared that this was what DAB.Docler needed as five minutes later they scored their first out of three unanswered goals. Zsolt Azari made it 4-1 on the power play and Attila Pavuk set up Viktor Papp for the shorthander three minutes later.
With just under two minutes left in regulation the SteelBulls pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, and the plan paid off as Tamás Gröschl's goal made it 4-3 and Miskolc had almost squandered a 4-0 lead! Adrián Tóth completed his hat trick, with an empty net goal and securing the win for the home team, though.
Brasov traveled to Budapest in an effort to end a six-game losing streak.
Brasov started the game strong when they scored two goals in the first period. Csanád Virág put the puck past Krisztián Budai as they pinched down, Martin Saluga and Juha Hietamäki were credited with the assists. Zsombor Antal scored the second goal thanks to some nifty stick work, Magor Petres from behind the net found Antal who sent Budai flying to his left and just tapped the puck into the empty net. In between the two Brasov goals Fradi had a chance to tie the game but Patrik Polc pulled the puck back from the goal line.
In the second period FTC was on the power play when Andreas Lindquist put a long rebound into the cage. The home team tied the game up on a strange goal, as there was a scrum in front of the Brasov net and the puck bouncing around Lajos Tőkési was able to get a long shot from just inside the blue line that somehow made it through the traffic and the back of the net.
With under four minutes left Saluga took a pass from Csanád Virág, skated into the FTC zone, faked Budai out and put the puck in the net. Budai was pulled for the extra attacked in an attempt to tie the game up but Virág scored an empty netter.
After the game Kjell G. Lindqvist, Brasov's coach, was visible relieved to end the losing streak. "This game was not a good game for the fans. It was very boring, we let them come towards us and get them out of their comfort zones, and we gave up two easy goals. It was a bad game but I'm very happy won," said Lindqvist.
After coming back from being down by 4 DAB played host to Csíkszereda who have recently signed two ex NHL players.
After a scoreless first period the home team dominated the second period as they scored four goals. Dávid Szappanos made it 1-0, and at 30:21 Balázs Ladányi doubled the lead. Less than a minute later Imre Peterdi made it 3-0 and Nikandrosz Galanisz scored the fourth one in the middle 20 minutes. Heading into the third period the visitors switched goalies, Gellért Ruczuj was benched for Ottó-Ákos Onodi.
DAB continued the third period where they left off in the second, Zsolt Azari made it 5-0, Peterdi scored his second of the night and Victor Lindgren had the seventh of this night on a PPG in the last half minute of play.
After not playing for twelve days UTE was itching to get back on the ice, and Brasov was looking to take another three road points and get back into the thick of the playoff race.
Brosov made it 1-0 at the 12:58 mark on a 3 on 2, with a couple of nice passes Levente Zsók flipped the puck past an outstretched József Pleszkán. With less than a minute left in the period Juha Hietamäki to a pass from Dennis Dumitru and threw it on night from just inside the blue line above the left faceoff circle, Zsolt Bálint put the rebound in for the 2-0 after the first period.
"When the team isn't scoring goals sometimes you just have to throw the puck on net to create chance and see what happens," said Hietamäki about his assist
Both goalies kept a clean sheet for the second period, in the third period UTE was able to get a goal back as Roscoe Sweeney put a rebound into the back of the cage to make it 2-1.
"There was a loose puck off the draw that got to Erik (Maklári) who shot it on net and I was in the right place to put the rebound into the empty net," said Sweeney about his goal.
Brasov scored a third goal on a PP as Evgenii Pysarenko took a blistering shot from in front of the goal from the blue line that got through the traffic to set the final score at 3-1. Brasov's coach Lindqvist said after the game: "I'm very happy about the three goals we scored, we had about 'three million' chances and we managed to score three goals. The important thing is that we got three points and have won two games after losing six. We played simple against Fradi and we played simple today as well.
