Last Saturday took place the draws for the ice hockey competitions of the Winter Universiade 2013.
The team draws for the ice hockey of the Trentino Winter Universiade took place during the third session of heads of delegation meeting in Trento this Saturday, 28 September, 2013.
The draw was made under the direction of Robert Philip, Vice-Chair of the Technical Committee for the Winter Universiade. The results of the previous Universiade were taken into account for the different pools. Note that Sweden and Latvia will be present for the first time in an ice hockey tournament of the Winter Universiade.
For Robert Philip, the hockey tournament looks wide open this year with traditionally strong teams like Russia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic as well as outsiders Canada, Ukraine and Japan. Finally in the first pool, Italy could have a beautiful role to play at home. "In terms of hockey action, it will be undoubtedly the best tournament in the history of the Universiade. There will certainly be some surprises with teams like Sweden and Latvia that want to show that they did not come to make up the numbers and finally a British squad that makes its return since Torino 2007." said Philip
In the women’s tournament, the strong contenders will probably be Canada and Russia, followed by the USA and Japan. Spain and Great Britain are the other partecipants
The Winter Universiade will be held in Trentino region, Italy, from 11 to 21 December 2013
