EHT: Czech Hockey Games day 2
31 Aug 2013 | Fredrik Pålsson
Shutouts by Koskinen and Karlsson give wins to Finland and Sweden who will play a decisive game tomorrow.
In the early game in Pardubice Finland made a very strong effort and won 2-0 against Russia. Russia was very sleepy in the first period and almost had no attacks at all. Sakari Salminen gave Finland the lead in the first.
In the second period Russia improved as Finland took penalties, but Russia couldn't capitalise on their chances and instead Pekka Jormakka could make it 2-0. "I had some luck when I reached to strike at my own rebound", Jormakka said about the goal. Finland had Russia under control in the third and Koskinen managed to keep his net clean for a shutout.
Sweden took control from the start and took 2-0 lead against the Czech Republic in the first period after two power play goals by Per Åslund. In the rest of the game it was a lot of mistakes and chances at both ends but two good goalies in Henrik Karlsson and Jakub Kovar kept the score at 2-0 before Niklas Persson made it 3-0 scoring on the empty net. "Today we scored if we had did that against Russia we would have won that game too", Sweden's coach Per Mårts said.
The game between Finland and Sweden tomorrow will be decisive for the tournament title.
