Wins for Finland and Russia when the EHT opens with the Czech Hockey Games.
Finland got a great start to the international season with a 3-1 win away to Czech hosts in Pardubice. Jori Lehterä scored two goals for Finland who was up 3-0 already after 29 minutes. The Czechs had 41 shots on goal but only managed to score once when Zbynek Irgl found the net at 52:29. Pekka Jormakka scored the third goal for Finland.
As usual one game is played outside the host country. Russia defeated Sweden 2-0 in St. Petersburg. In a close game the score was 0-0 for long before Evgeny Kuznetsov opened the score eight minutes into the third. A mistake by Henrik Karlsson who let the puck in at the first post. The goal game after period of Russian domination but after the goal Sweden came back and took over but never managed to beat Koschechkin. Instead Yegor Averin made it 2-0 from the slot in the last minute.
