Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov, who started the season with the team of SKA St. Petersborough in KHL, signed a one-year deal with NHL team Detroit Red Wings. But according to valid NHL rule the Red Wings organization had to put Nabokov, as the player comming from a professional hockey league outside NHL, on the waivers list. It means that any other NHL team could pick up this player to it's roster without any compensation.
New York Islanders seized the chances and took Nabokov from Red Wing's roster. Nabokov rejected to play with Islanders because he wants to play in a team with chance for the Stanley cup. The Islanders organisation reacted with suspending him. Thanks to it, Nabokov cannot play in any other NHL organisation for the rest of this and for all of next season, if the case won’t be resolved earlier.
The most likely possible solution is, that the Red Wings will trade any other player or 2011 draft choice to the Islanders. In other way they can put their hands off Nabokov and start looking for any other goaltender. If this possibility will come true, Nabokov will have to pray for another NHL club’s offer to trade him, find engagement in any other professional hockey league, or just play for the Islanders.
Until today, Nabokov has skated into 22 KHL games with bilance 8 wins and 8 loses. During 1230 minutes on the ice he has reached statistics of 0.888% saves on 554 shots on his net. His goals against avarage stoped at a value of 3.02.
All-time NHL statistics of the 35-year old Kazakhstan goaltender are much better: 563 games; 293 wins; 178 loses. 1.294 goals against avarage and the number of 0.912% succeeded saves.
