Western Conference

Severstal Cherepovets (5) - SKA St. Petersburg (1) 2-4

After the early guest lead through Dmitry Kalinin home side Severstal turned around the result through Denis Kazionov and Mikhail Anisin until 21:39. In an even mdidle period SKA were the more effective side though and decided the match through three consecutive goals by Yuri Alexandrov, Alexander Kucheryavenko and Evgeny Artyukhin. During the last 20 minutes Severstal tried their luck once more but the favourites from St. Petersburg controlled the match and kept their two-goal lead until the very end for the sweep in this series.

SKA have won the series 4-0

Dynamo Moscow (3) - CSKA Moscow (2) 2-1 OT

Late in the first period Sergei Soin opened the score for home side Dynamo. After a pass by Dominik Granak he tried it with a shot from a central position that went into the right corner past guest goalie Stana. At 21:57 it was Nikolai Prokhorkin who tied the match out of the blue for CSKA. Before the second intermission Dynamo had four big scoring opportunities but failed to use even one of them. Until the last 10 minutes of regulation none of the teams wanted to risk anything but then the puck went back and forth all time and both teams could have won easily with more effectivity. When everyone expected a long overtime Sergei Konkov won the match for Dynamo after only 38 seconds when he deflected a pass by Yuri Babenko from the right wing past Stana from a short distance! Dynamo now have three "match balls" and could enter the next round already in the following game #5.

Dynamo lead 3-1 in the series
