The second leg of KHL's newly introduced Cup of Hope gave outsiders Dinamo Riga and Spartak Moscow the qualification for the tournament quarterfinals.
Two days after a 1-4 loss in Riga, favourites Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod answered with a good performance on home ice. Denis Arkhipov, Jonas Andersson and Grigory Mishchenko gave Torpedo a solid three-goal lead before Andris Dzerins answered for Dinamo. At 51:59 Martin Thörnberg restored the three-goal lead for the hosts before Vitalijs Pavlovs scored the 4-2 just 15 seconds later. This was also the result after the end of the regular time so that the series was tied 1-1 and the game went into overtime. There it was Paul Szczechura who at 64:38 scored the 4-3 which served as series winner for the Latvians. Dinamo now have to play against Donbass Donetsk from Ukraine.
In the other match of the day a single goal by Valery Vasilyev in power play at 39:34 gave guests Spartak Moscow a 1-0 road win against Vityaz Chekhov. After a time out Vityaz goalie Ivan Lisutin left his net during the last minute but also with the additional skater they didn't score anymore. After a 2-2 in the first leg this small lead was enough for Spartak to advance to the next round where they will face Dinamo Minsk from Belarus.
