Team Canada wins Spengler Cup

The Canadian selects stormed to this year's title with a clear 7-2 victory against hosts HC Davos.

Already until 09:07 the Canadians had earned a solid three goal lead after strikes by Patrice Bergeron, Derrick Walser and Ryan Smith. This also showed the importance of the special teams as Walser scored in power play and Smith shorthanded. At the end of the period Dario Bürgler brought Davons onto the scoreboard for the first time but again Ryan Smith and Josh Tavares (power play) made everything clear for Canada in the middle period for an easy 5-1 lead. After Tavares' goal at 30:24 Davos changed their goalies - Reto Berra came in for Leonardo Genoni who only had saved 11 of the 16 shots he faced. But also the new man between the posts couldn't avoid that Jason Spezza and again Josh Tavares made it 7-1 before the last 10 minutes of regulation - the last one again shorthanded. With 02:31 left on the clock Rafael Diaz only was able to score the final 7-2.

For Davos it was the second loss with a five-goal difference against Canada, which played with many NHL lockout players, in this tournament after the 0-5 in the group match, showing the big quality difference between the two sides.
