Russia and Finland win on opening day

Channel One Cup started today with the games Sweden-Russia 1-5 and Finland-Czech Republic 3-2. For Sweden the EHT season has now started with four straight losses.
The Russian stars started the second Euro Hockey Tour tournament of the season with a solid 5-1 win against Sweden. The Swedes continued their losing streak from Karjala Tournament and have now collected four losses in a row.
Sweden took the lead in the middle of the first period on their first power play of the game. Nicklas Danielsson beat Konstantin Barulin in the net. Yevgeny Medvedev replied in the first minute of the second period.
The game was decided when Russia scored three goals in less than three minutes during the seconbd half of the middle act. Sergey Mozyakin made it 2-1, Alexander Ovechkin 3-1 and Alexander Radulov 4-1. In the opening of the last period Sergey Mozyakin scored his second goal for 5-1 which also was the final score.
Finland got a nightmare start against Czech Republic. Zdenek Kutlak scored 1-0 for the visitors at only 26 seconds of play. The score turned in the second period when Oskar Osala and Antti Pihlström scored for Finland. Teemu Ramstedt made it 3-1 at 53:41 and the game was won even if Ales Hemsky scored 3-2 in the final minute.
Tomorrow is a day off. On Saturday Russia plays Czech Republic and Finland plays Sweden.
