Cologne back in playoff race

Two days after league leaders Eisbären Berlin also the Straubing Tigers lost all three points in Cologne.
A negative streak in recent weeks had kicked the Kölner Haie out of the playoff race but six points within two days bring them back to a one-point distance to the first pre-playoff spot. Both teams had already met last Friday in Cologne and Straubing won the game with 2-3. This time it also looked like the guests should win - until a great three-goal comeback of the Sharks in the third period. René Röthke had opened the score for Straubign already in the third minute but in the first power play of the game Moritz Müller scored the equalizer just two minutes later. In a weak middle period of the Sharks where they only had five shots on goal Straubing scored two times within the first six minutes through Daniel Sparre and Andrew Canzanello in power play. Cologne knew that only three points would help them so that they tried everything to have another goal and when Jonathan D'Aversa made it 2-3 with ten minutes to go - again in power play - everything was possible. The former NHL players Matt Pettinger and Jason Jaspers gave the match the final turn around and gave Cologne a huge boost one day before their difficult journey to face the Adler Mannheim.
