Game recap

Glasgow Clan won their second straight overtime game, beating Sheffield Steelers 3-2 in OT on Wednesday night.

A near sellout crowd at Braehead Arena was treated to an excellent contest between two evenly matched sides. Clan outshot their opponents in each of the first two periods, but the game remained tied heading into the third.

The only goals through 40 minutes came in the opening period. Sam Tremblay gave the Steelers the lead just 2:40 into the game, one-timing home Evan Jasper’s feed from behind the net. Clan levelled things up 2:55 before the first break when Reece Kelly’s turnover behind his own goal allowed Robert Lachowicz to find Miihkali Teppo in the slot for a one-time finish.

There were no goals in the second period, though Clan were left ruing a series of missed powerplay opportunities. Four Steelers penalties gave them sustained pressure, but Matt Greenfield stood firm to keep the score level.

Former Steeler Brett Neumann had a golden chance to give his new team the lead but was denied by Greenfield when through one-on-one. However, 6:42 into the third period, Neumann did strike – slotting home off a set faceoff play from Brayden Burke’s pass to put the Clan ahead.

With 7:22 left to play, a Dominic Cormier shot bounced off Sami Aittokallio straight to Derek Gentile, who fired home the rebound to tie the game once again. The Steelers had the better of the late chances, but both teams ultimately deserved to take something from the game as it headed into overtime.

In the extra frame, both Jordon Southorn and Darien Kielb came close before Kielb fed the puck across the crease for Jason Fram to slot home the winner at 63:20, sealing another dramatic overtime victory for the Clan.
