Goals and assists
Belfast Giants moved a step closer to their third straight Viaplay Elite League title on Saturday night, but the wait to secure the trophy goes on after Guildford’s win in Dundee.
Scott Conway’s snipe early on put the hosts ahead with the only goal of the opening period.
David Gilbert doubled that lead early in period two, but by 26:34 the Storm were back in it through a Zac Herrmann powerplay goal.
It stayed a one-goal game until the third when the hosts ran away with things. David Goodwin struck 24 seconds into the final period to give the home side their two-goal cushion back, with Steve Owre’s powerplay marker some two minutes later making things comfortable. Gilbert made it five before Gabe Bast, Will Cullen, Sean Norris and Henrik Ericsson rounded out a 9-1 thrashing.
The Giants will be crowned league champions of the Flames are beaten on Sunday.
