It was a night to remember for Coventry Blaze, and one to forget quickly for Glasgow Clan, after a 9-2 scoreline at the Skydome Arena on Sunday night.
Danny Stewart could not have asked for a better opening period for his side, playing their second home game of the weekend. The hosts took the lead in the slot from Evan Bloodoff with 14:14 played, and less than three minutes later intricate passing eventually saw Luke Ferrara flick the puck home from close range. With two seconds left in the period, Justin Haché's wrist shot from the blue line went through traffic to find the net and give Coventry a three-goal lead after 20 minutes.
If Stewart was delighted after one period, then he must have been ecstatic after two. Four more goals followed in the next 20 minutes to give the Blaze a commanding lead heading into the second intermission. Matt Pohlkamp finished off at 22:31 for 4-0, before Charles Corcoran went almost coast-to-coast on his own to fire past Patrick Killeen shorthanded at 25:38. Pohlkamp got his second of the game after patient passing from Andrew Johnston and David Broll, before Nolan LaPorte pounced on a deflection to get the Clan on the board. Johnston set up Luke Ferrara straight from the faceoff to make it 7-1 on 36 minutes as the Blaze saw the period out killing off a penalty.
Third period goals from Luke Ferrara and David Broll, either side of a Linden Springer marker for the Clan, finished off a 9-2 win - Ferrara completing a hat-trick
