Belfast Giants are the 2018/19 Challenge Cup Winners after an enthralling game at the Viola Arena in Cardiff.
The opening period was without score in just 28 minutes, as the teams contested a fast-paced, end-to-end game. Belfast took the lead early into period two however; the puck fell kindly to Patrick Dwyer in the slot who went bar and in with 20:33 played. Guildford, who’d had the better of the opening period, seemed a little flatter but were level before the period was out. On a man advantage of their own Brett Ferguson’s pass allowed Jamie Crooks to fire into the net to level things up at 36:38.
No goals in the third period meant the game was decided in overtime – Jordan Smotherman hit the game winner!
