Slovak goalie Tomas Duba started for HC Lev for the first time in last 8 games.
"It was pleasant not playing, when the other goalie Jan Laco was on fire. I try to keep up with him, try to have a good game against Spartak, we are in the same position with them," HC Lev goalie Tomas Duba said to Eurohockey.com.
Spartak line-up can't change at all after coming new head coach Andrei Sidorenko. Moscow fans remembered what happened with the team last month, that's why they hang up banners, which were addressed to Spartak players: "Cowards doesn't play hockey" with images of pants (pants and cowards in Russian sound the same) and scores huge losses (1-8, 2-10, 1-7); and "Don't score more than 2, don't concede less than 5, don't disgrace Spartak". The home team began the game more active and aggressive, had a several chances in power-play, but Duba stopped all 16 shots in the first period.
"We didn't expect that, we predicted that it would be a tight game, they wanted to try in the beginning, we did slow, happy in the end with a little bit of luck we won," Duba said.
A strong snap shot by Roman Lyuduchin gave Spartak the lead early in the second. All second period the teams played at low speed, another moment happened, when Marcel Hossa gave a great pass to Vadim Berdnikov, who can't lift the puck with a high wrister.
In the third the teams again returned to the game. Spartak goalie Ivan Kasutin lost a puck behind the net and Netik touched it in the net at 44:01. Immediately Spartak increased speed and 4 minutes later Artyom Voronin scored his first KHL goal after getting a pass from Aleksandr Yunkov in front of the net with a powerful high wrister. Spartak's 4th line scored both goals tonight. When it was 20 seconds to play in the third ex-Spartak player Juraj Mikus tied the game. In the shootout HC Lev goalie Tomas Duba stoned shots by Gubin and Lyuduchin, but Ivan Kasutin can't deny Juraj Mikus and Jiri Sekac shots.
"I didn't expect that so many Spartak fans would be on my side, we wanted to win today. It wasn't our best game, but we were lucky. I absolutely know how I will perform a shot. Kasutin is a good goalie. Last game when we had a shootout I didn't perform in it, because I felt that I won't score. Today I felt it, and I wanted to do it, and did it!" Juraj Mikus said to Eurohockey.com.
HC Lev snapped its 10-game losing away streak; Spartak became one of the worst teams in KHL between two Euro Hockey Tour stages.
"I didn't know it, I think against Neftekhimik we won the last time on the road. We've been trying very hard, often losing 1-2 goals, and we're really happy to win today. We need some winning streak to think about getting playoff-spot, if we struggle in a couple of games we can try to look at the standings, and watch where we're," Duba said.
