So it is finally a reality! Copenhagen gets a multi arena, scheduled to stand ready in the autumn of 2015 with location in the Ørestad area of Amager. A decision of great satisfaction at the Danish Ice Hockey Union.
"You must say that this is a happy day for both Copenhagen and Danish sports. It's no secret that we in the DIU has pushed for years to get such an arena to Copenhagen, so the city can be competitive with other European capitals" says the Chairman of the DIU, Henrik Bach Nielsen.
With a multi arena with seats for up to 15,000 spectators the opportunities to attract major sporting events to Denmark strengthened significantly. Among them the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2017. DIU has applied for hosting the competition. So has also Germany, France and Latvia.
"Now, there certainly are no longer doubts whether Denmark has the what it takes for holding such a huge event. With the new arena in Copenhagen and the already constructed Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, we have never been stronger, so we're optimistic and we will be proud to welcome the entire hockey to Denmark," says Henrik Bach Nielsen.
