Lokomotiv Yaroslavl President Yuri Jakolev says that his club is not ready to play in the KHL this year.
There have been several ideas on how Lokomotiv Yaroslav would be able to participate in the KHL after the tragic plane crash on Wednesday. KHL president Dmitri Medvedev suggested that all other clubs would give away a couple of players to Lokomotiv.
But now the President of Lokomotiv Yuri Jakolev says that they won't play in KHL this year. "Our primary goal is to help the families," he told Sovjetskij Sport. "Then we will try rebuild the team, but we and the people around the club need time. But we are determined to play in the KHL again next season".
The KHL also announced that the opening game of the season between the Gagarin Cup winner and the runner up will be called the Lokomotiv Cup. The first Lokomotiv Cup will be played on Monday between Salavat Yulaev and Atlant. The game between the teams, originally scheduled for September 7, was postponed when news of the tragedy came.
