This season, nine teams will compete in the Latvian Virslīgā

It is now decided that the Latvian League will open with nine teams. The championship starts September 17th.

 
 
 
 
Nine teams have been approved for participating in Latvian Virslīgā 2011/12: SK Liepājas metalurgs, HK Ozolnieki/MONARCH, DHK Latgale, SMScredit.lv, Zemgale/JLSS, HS Rīga/Prizma, HS Rīga/LSPA, SK Rīga’95 and one Lithuanian team - Elektrēnu Energija.

HK Ogre will not participate this year.

Each team will play 32 regular season games between September 17 and March 3. The playoffs will end no later than April 14.

The first two teams will qualify for the semi finals while team 3-6 play quarter finals. The Lithuanian team can not participate in the playoffs.
