New licensing system in Finnish SM-Liiga

New licensing system in Finnish SM-Liiga

25 Jun 2011 | Henrik Lundqvist

The SM-Liiga has introduced a licensing system. In order to play in the league, certain requirements such as security cameras in the arena and safer board have to be fulfilled.

The teams must replace the plexiglass and the boards in their home arenas before the end of 2015. They must be up to the standards used in the NHL by then, so that they give in more to bodychecks.

The clubs will also have more medical examinations. This requirement also applies to the A-junior teams of the SM-Liiga clubs.

The 2011/12 SM-Liiga teams:

Espoo Blues

HIFK Helsinki

HPK Hämeenlinna

Ilves Tampere

Jokerit

JYP Jyväskylä

KalPa Kuopio

Kärpät Oulu

Lukko Rauma

Pelicans Lahti

Porin Ässät

SaiPa Lappeenranta

Tappara Tampere

TPS Turku
