The Danish Team hotel (Hotel Tatra) fell victim of a series of thefts from multiple rooms on saturday afternoon during the Denmark vs. Germany game including rooms occupied by both Danish players and Danish team staff as well as a few Danish VIP guests.
The thefts were targeted at computers, iPods, iPads, perfumes, sunglasses, credit cards and cash.
"We were looking forward to enjoying a nice evening together as a winning team after the game versus Germany and instead we got to spend half the night with the Slovak State Police. The police were approaching the team and the incident in a very professional manner and we are all pleased that the police are now in charge of this situation. We still have crucial World Ranking points to play for and want to focus on our last game against Slovakia. We ask the media to respect, that we will have no further comments on this issue" says Danish Captain Morten Green.
The Danish Team has also informed the International Ice Hockey Federation of the incident. Hotel Tatra has informed both team and organizer that the Danish players and team staff will suffer no financial losses as a result of the incident.
„We are extremely sorry for what happened. As a precaution, we immediately warned all hotels accommodating the teams so they could strengthen their internal security measures, “ said Igor Nemeček, Chairman of the 2011 IIHF WC.
„We are very serious about it. Immediately, we started to coordinate all law enforcement authorities that began the investigation and they worked all night. I believe the Danish side also appreciated the efforts of the police force,” said Stanislav Jankovič, Security Manager of the 2011 IIHF WC.
