Slovakia - Finland 1-11
Finland's U20 national team delivered a dominant performance against Slovakia at the Academy Arena, securing an overwhelming 11-1 victory. The game was a showcase of Finland's offensive depth and defensive solidity, as they outclassed Slovakia in every aspect.
Finland set the tone early, with Etu Levänen opening the scoring at 6:28, followed by two more goals in the first period from Oliver Kopiloff and Tuomas Uronen, putting Finland up 3-0. Slovakia struggled to generate any offensive momentum, unable to register a single shot on goal during the first period.
In the second period, Finland continued to dominate. Uronen netted his second goal early in the period, increasing the lead to 4-0. Slovakia briefly responded with their only goal of the game, scored by Tomáš Pobežal at 24:57, making it 4-1. However, this did little to slow down Finland, who quickly regained control with a power-play goal from Lauri Sinivuori, and another from Markus Loponen, extending their lead to 6-1 by the end of the second period.
The third period was a disaster for Slovakia, as Finland piled on five more goals. Eeli Äijälä scored a shorthanded goal, followed by goals from Elias Huttu, Atte Vikla, Emil Järventie, and a third from Uronen to complete his hat trick. By the final buzzer, Finland had secured an 11-1 victory, with Slovakia unable to mount any significant challenge.
Finnish goaltender Petteri Rimpinen faced minimal pressure throughout the game, conceding only one goal, while Slovakia's netminders, Lukas Fürsten and Samuel Urban, were overwhelmed by the relentless Finnish attack. The win highlighted Finland's strength in depth, with contributions from multiple players, including standout performances by Uronen, Loponen, and Kopiloff.
Czechia - Sweden 5-4 OT
Czechia edged out Sweden with a dramatic 5-4 overtime victory. The game was tightly contested throughout, with both teams exchanging goals and momentum in an intense battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Sweden struck first, with Viggo Nordlund capitalizing on a Czech turnover to score a breakaway goal at 4:24. Czechia responded later in the period, taking advantage of a power play as Eduard Salé danced through the Swedish defense to tie the game 1-1. Just under two minutes later, Czechia took the lead with another power-play goal, this time from captain Matěj Maštalířský, whose shot from the blue line found the back of the net.
However, Sweden answered back in the dying seconds of the first period, as Kalle Carlsson's shot from the point beat the Czech goalie, Jan Kavan, to level the score at 2-2 with just one second left on the clock.
The second period saw more back-and-forth action. Adam Fiala restored Czechia's lead at 30:57 with a quick shot that slipped past the Swedish goalie, Teodor Munther. But Sweden quickly equalized once more, with Oskar Vuollet scoring on the power play just over a minute later. The Swedes then took their first lead of the game at 33:52, when Valdemar Vesterlund pushed the puck into the net during a chaotic scramble in front of the goal, making it 4-3.
Czechia showed resilience, tying the game yet again late in the second period with another power-play goal from Maštalířský, his second of the night, setting up a tense third period.
Despite numerous chances for both teams, the third period remained scoreless, forcing the game into overtime. It didn't take long for Czechia to secure the win, as Maštalířský completed his hat trick just 52 seconds into the extra period. His shot, intended as a pass from behind the net, deflected off Munther and into the goal, giving Czechia a hard-fought 5-4 victory.
Maštalířský was the hero of the night with three goals, while Eduard Salé also had a standout performance with a goal and an assist. Czech goalie Jan Kavan made several key saves, particularly in the tense final minutes of regulation, to help secure the win. For Sweden, Nordlund, Carlsson, Vuollet, and Vesterlund all found the back of the net, but it wasn't enough to overcome the resilient Czech team.
