Denmark wins first game against Latvia

As a part of their Olympic qualifier preparation Latvia and Denmark play two games in Riga. Denmark won the first game 3-2. Game 2 will take place tomorrow.
In a thrilling match held at Arena Riga on August 25, 2024, Denmark narrowly defeated Latvia 3-2.
The game started evenly, with no goals in the first period as both teams exchanged 10 shots apiece. Latvia took the lead in the second period when Eduards Tralmaks scored at 35:24, assisted by Kristiāns Rubīns and goaltender Kristers Gudļevskis.
However, Denmark mounted a strong comeback in the third period, beginning with Frederik Storm's equalizer at 43:10, followed by Patrick Russell's go-ahead goal just over a minute later at 44:15. Denmark extended their lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal from Joachim Blichfeld at 51:08, with Nikolaj Ehlers providing the assist.
Latvia responded late in the period, as Roberts Bukarts, the player of the game for Latvia, scored at 56:43, narrowing the deficit to 3-2, with help from his brother Rihards Bukarts. Despite Latvia pulling their goalie and applying pressure in the final minutes, Denmark held on for the victory.
Denmark's Frederik Andersen was named the man of the match, stopping 23 of 25 shots with a save percentage of 92%. Kristers Gudļevskis made 28 saves for Latvia, finishing with a save percentage of 90.32%.
