The last stage of the Olympic qualification starts in five days. Norway and France are two of the teams competing for a spot.
In an utterly dominant performance, Norway crushed France 9-0 in their national team game on August 24, 2024, at Sparta Amfi. From the onset, Norway set the tone with relentless offense and airtight defense, racking up an incredible 41 shots on goal to France's 18. The match featured two power-play goals and a total of nine different scorers, highlighting Norway's depth and offensive prowess.
Norway jumped out to a quick lead with Mats Zuccarello Aasen opening the scoring just 3:11 into the game, assisted by Eirik Salsten and Patrick Thoresen. This dynamic trio contributed heavily throughout the match, with Salsten netting two more goals and Thoresen collecting three assists. By the end of the first period, Norway was already ahead 5-0, including power-play goals by Michael Brandsegg-Nygård and Thomas Olsen.
In the second period, Norway continued their offensive onslaught with goals from Brandsegg-Nygård and Sander Vold Engebråten, extending the lead to 7-0. The third period saw no let-up as Markus Vikingstad and Martin Rønnild each added goals, sealing Norway’s emphatic victory.
France struggled to generate any offense against Norway’s formidable defense, while their goaltenders, Julian Junca and Antoine Keller, faced a barrage of shots. Junca conceded five goals in 20 minutes before being replaced by Keller, who allowed four more.
Norway's goalie, Jonas Arntzen, was impeccable, stopping all 18 shots he faced and securing the shutout victory. The home crowd of 1,661 spectators witnessed a complete performance from Norway, leaving France searching for answers after a lopsided defeat.
