Q&A with Fabian Kapica

02 Dec 2022 | Kamil Przegendza

In our next interview we talked with Fabian Kapica - young Polish hope for the future. We spoke about situation in his club and the life of a professional hockey player

Eurohockey.com : Podhale has not been in the best form recently. You are at the bottom of the table and dreams of the play-offs seem to be a bit distant. What are your goals for the upcoming matches?

Fabian Kapica, forward of Podhale Nowy Targ : First of all, we have to start winning games. Improve all the little things that lead to winning the game. We should have more shots on goal. There are a lot of details we need to work on and I hope we can do that during the international break.

What is the atmosphere in the locker room after these - to say - disturbing results?

The atmosphere in Nowy Targ is always good. We have local older guys who take care of the dressing room, build that atmosphere and from whom we learn a lot. We young players are trying to give something of ourselves. The atmosphere is definitely good, we're not down on it and we're working on it all the time.

Recently, a short bench has also become your problem. In few matches you played only on three lines. How does this affect your game?

I can't tell if this has any effect on our game. You are definitely longer on the ice, but all the time, each of us has to do our job, do our job to the best of our ability. Certainly, the players who supply us from the first league also help us, because they are able to bring a lot to the team.

Which of the “little things” mentioned earlier bother you the most and need the most improvement?

I am convinced that we need to start scoring more goals. In the end, in Oświęcim, we scored 4 goals and it was still not enough. We only have one and a half goals per game, it's definitely not enough to think about points. We need to work on that and have a lot more shots on goal.

How has all the off-season turmoils affected your current disposition? This uncertainty if you will start this season at all?

It's hard for me to say. At the end of last season we received information that everyone is preparing for the new season on their own, regardless of whether we manage to start or not. It's nice that everyone approached it professionally, we waited until the last moment to see what would happen in Nowy Targ and finally, we managed to start. It's great that it worked, because it's hard to imagine the polish league without Podhale.

Do you agree with the theory that the PHL is getting more even? In your opinion, is the level of the Polish league rising?

The league is getting more and more interesting every year. The results show that these games are more and more even. Even after the transfers, you can see some interesting names coming to the league. There are also experienced players who bring a lot to the teams they play for. In my opinion, the level is rising year by year, the league is getting more and more recognizable, even my friends from abroad ask what it all looks like and what is going on here.

Now a question from one of the woman readers. It concerns your marital status.

I'm single at the moment (laughs). I don't have a girlfriend.

What's your favorite hockey trip?

I've always liked going to Krakow because it's a match against my brother. My family is always at these games. It is a match full of emotions, because my parents support me and my brother. It's definitely something cool.

At the end, I will ask if this rivalry with your brother has an extra flavor, are you more motivated then?

It's hard to say. My brother is definitely on a different level, he advises and helps me a lot. It's great that I have such a brother.
