Canada beat Russia in the final to win the World U18 Championship in Texas.
What a great finish of the U18 championship. The two young super talents Matvei Michkov and Connor Bedard got to play each other for the gold medals.
Michkov, top scorer (16 points) and goal scorer (12) of the tournament, only needed 5:13 to get the first goal of the game and Bedard replied with an equalizer ten minutes later. Dmitri Buchelnikov took Russia ahead for a second time before Canadian captain Shane Wright tied it a second time.
In the second period Brennan Othman and Logan Stankoven took Canada to a two-goal lead. Russia got closer again in the middle of the third when Vladimir Grudinin scored a powerplay goal but Wright scored his second of the game with an empty netter 40 seconds before the end to restore the Canadian 2-goal lead which lasted until the buzzer.
In the bronze medal game earlier on Thursday Sweden beat Finland 8-0.
