Ice hockey begins to grow in Pakistan, inheriting the roots of an ancient sport

At the Pakistan Winter Sports Festival, held at the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Ski Resort in Naltar, besides Skiing and Ice Skating, also the 3rd Ice hockey Championship were celebrated

Seven teams competed in the tournament: Army, Punnjab, Pakistan Air Force, CAA, Sindh, Gilgit Baltistan Sports Association (GBSA) and Gilgit Scouts.

Team Gilgit Baltistan Sports Association (GBSA) wins the final by defeating Gilgit Baltistan Scouts 7-1

The first ever icehockey game was played in Pakistan in December 2018 between the teams of Pakistan Air Force and GB Scouts, won by PAF at shootouts with decisive goal by Shahryar

Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as the Northern Areas,is a region administered by Pakistan as an administrative territory, and constitutes the northern portion of the larger Kashmir region

The history of ice hockey in the Gilgit Baltistan region can be traced to a local game ghatal, which is also played with two sticks and a ball. To continue the legacy of this traditional game, ice hockey has been introduced in the region.

There are no ice hockey rinks in Pakistan and no official leagues.
