Double blow for Sheffield Steelers.
In just 3 days Sheffield Steelers lost a coach and a player.
On Monday Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL parted company with
their Head Coach Paul Thompson, citing personal reasons for his departure.
He had been with the Steelers since April 2015 after a spell
in Sweden with
Troja-Ljungby of the Allvenskaren and later Aalborg Pirates of the Danish Metal
Ligaen.
He had gone to Sweden
after a successful spell in Coventry
of the EIHL where he lifted multiple trophies (EIHL title 3 times; Challenge
CUP title twice; play off championship).
With Sheffield he won the league and
the play offs, taking them into Europe three times.
However, this season did not start brightly and the loss of
two players and poor form throughout September naturally raised questions about
the quality of recruitment.
After a loss at the hands of his old club Coventry
it was apparent that he
was becoming increasingly frustrated and he decided to call
it a day.
But today assistant player-coach Mark Matheson, now in
charge was hit by the news that new young signing Ryan Martindale had decided
to leave for personal reasons.
