The Lions made it clear from the start of the 2016 Swiss Hockey Cup final who would walk away with the trophy in front of a sold out crowd in Lausanne.
An early goal in the first and second period by forward Jan
Neuenschwander and David Rundblad put the guests ahead and Lausanne
trailing with no chance of turning around the game. Harri Pesonen's goal
in the second would remain the only goal in a game that was in the
Lions hand's even though the score was tight right up to the final
minutes of the game when Reto Schäppi scored an empty netter and Robert
Nilsson sealed the deal with 35 seconds left in the game.
Auston Matthews collected his first trophy as a pro player just 6 months
after playing his first game for the Lions. He collected two assists in
the final and most likely will continue scoring points in the remaining
two weeks of the regular season before the play offs begin of March.
